10th Anniversary Season

It's hard to believe, but 2017-2018 will be Astraios's 10th anniversary season. From our first concert in Colorado, where the musicians were famously paid only in cookies, we have come so far!

We are thrilled that Expedition Frisco will be hosting all 4 of Astraios's evening concerts next season. A newly renovated church on Main Street in Frisco, the space is open and flexible and will be a great venue for many ensembles. Ruth Ann, Jeremy, and Michael first played at Expedition Frisco in January and the audience commented on the inviting space and warm acoustics.

The Gruca White Ensemble will kick things off for us in October. Linda White, flute, and Bob Gruca, guitar, last came to Texas in 2014. This ensemble-in-residence at The Music Settlement in Cleveland, Ohio, combines standard classical repertoire with improvised "jams," pulling from jazz, rock, and folk influences. These musicians have a packed schedule in Ohio, so we're happy they could add us to their calendar.

December will bring us the New Houston Harp Ensemble, and for the first time, Astraios will present a Christmas concert on our evening concert series. Emily Mitchell, Susanna Campbell, Danielle Harmon, and Kimberly De Rosa will perform a beautiful and festive program, which we will pair with appetizers and dessert. Tickets go on sale September 1!

February will bring us another first, as Astraios will feature a soprano for the first time. Jessica McCormack will join Astraios popular favorite Brian Zator, as they pair works for voice and percussion.

And in March, The August Winds return! One of Astraios's founding ensembles, The August Winds have been performing since they met as freshmen at Indiana University, 17 years ago. These days Ruth Ann, Michael, and Natasha are here in Dallas, Marianne in Arizona and Jon in Oregon, but we still have a great time when we get together.

In addition to our evening concerts, we will be returning to perform in the Frisco elementary schools and continuing to seek out new venues for our outreach programs. We are looking forward to a great season and can't wait to bring you these concerts.
