Gruca White Ensemble

Bob Gruca and Linda White of the Gruca White Ensemble helped us kick off our 10th anniversary in great style!

It was great to have Bob and Linda back in Texas. Without breaking a sweat, they rolled off a plane at DFW at 1:30 and by 6pm were in Farmers Branch, performing at a new venue. We had a wonderful crowd at the First Baptist Church of Farmers Branch, clearly all devoted music lovers. They enjoyed the performance by this flute and guitar duo, especially the improvs created from fortune cookies!

Friday morning, Bob and Linda performed at the Silverado Memory Care Center in Plano. They played a range of music, finishing with "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" as most residents joined in singing. (You can also catch a short video of one of the residents dancing with her nurse on our Facebook page!)

After a short nap and a break to cheer on their Cleveland Indians baseball team (who won that night but then sadly choked in the playoffs...), Bob and Linda headed to Expedition Frisco, our home for the season. A group of our diehard fans enjoyed their program, which included a work based on John Steinbeck's 'The Pearl," and a jazz waltz by Linda herself. They also included more improvs, including one based on the prompt "What did you want to be when you grew up?" Winning answer: "A garbage collector!" Enjoy their interpretation in a short video below.

We'll have more clips of the Gruca White Ensemble soon. Be sure to save the date for December 15, as Astraios will present the New Houston Harp Ensemble in a festive holiday program!
